Central heating – facts and myths

Central heating is one of the most popular ways to provide heat in single-family homes and other residential buildings. It works by generating heat, usually by means of a stove, and then distributing it to radiators located in various rooms of the apartment. It is worth knowing facts and myths about central heating and then decide which heating system to choose for your home

It is true that central heating does not cost much, but a good quality stove and radiators is an investment for many years. Many people heat their homes with electricity or gas, but the ecological use of solar energy is becoming more and more popular. Some people are also giving up traditional radiators that hang on the wall in favor of underfloor heating. To protect your building from heat loss, it’s a good idea to insulate it properly and seal the windows

What should you know about central heating?

Choosing the right heating system should be tailored to the individual needs of the household. Providing heat in the house is one of the most important issues during the construction of the house, it determines whether the building is functional and comfortable to live in. When choosing a heating system, you should analyze the size of the house and the number of people who will live in it. Central heating is a heating system that produces heat in one specific location. The heat obtained in this area is then distributed throughout the house using a special system. In individual rooms, there are corresponding radiators receivers, thanks to which it reaches every designated place

Facts and myths about central heating

  1. Fact: The key element of central heating is the boiler

The boiler produces heat which is distributed throughout the house by means of a system of installations. It is created by burning a particular type of fuel and is transported to the radiators in the form of heated water. There is a wide range of central heating boilers available in stores. These include gas and electric boilers, for solid or liquid fuels. The boiler is placed in a special, insulated room called a boiler room.

  1. Myth: You can distribute heat without an organized network of pipes

To distribute heat efficiently and correctly in the rooms of the building you need a properly designed network of pipes. It is good to take care of a good choice of heating system already at the stage of construction, because changing the installation often means renovation of the entire house. Heat is transported through pipes hidden in the structure of the house. The carrier is water, which flows to the radiators located in individual rooms. In buildings where it is necessary to heat several floors, it is necessary to create a so-called riser, which brings the heat to each floor

  1. Fact: The most popular are gas stoves

One of the most important decisions regarding the heating system is the choice of fuel for the boiler, which will be used for central heating. This is an important issue, because it will determine the cost of purchasing the installation and its operation, as well as the functionality and efficiency of the furnace. The most popular option in Poland are gas-fired furnaces. Their undoubted advantage is that gas is a relatively cheap fuel and at the same time the furnace is convenient to use. The purchase of the system is a considerable expense, but its price is not exorbitant. A gas furnace does not have to stand in an isolated room, so you can put it in the garage or basement

  1. Myth: Central heating is not an environmentally friendly solution

Central heating can be ecological and environmentally friendly. However, it depends on the fuel that will be burned in the process of heat extraction.Eco-friendly heating will be possible if the stove burns wood or pellets. In both cases, the heating system does not contribute to the emission of harmful fumes. Wood is a material that takes up a lot of space, so you need a large area to accommodate fuel for the winter. The operation of the boiler itself is quite demanding and troublesome. Unlike a pellet boiler, which is virtually maintenance-free. This is an ecological solution, where compressed sawdust and wood chips are burned. It is a slightly more expensive solution, as the furnace and its operation cost more
