How do you get started with voice control of your home?

Giving yourself access to options such as voice control at home is simpler than you might think.

What’s more, it doesn’t involve big expenses at all, of course, if we’re talking about basic solutions. However, even these should be entirely sufficient. The selection of the technology itself, as well as its implementation, can be considered the most difficult issue. How to start voice-controlling your home? Find out from us!

Google Home

Basically, Google Home is an app that acts as a hub for all Google devices. If you have connected home products, such as a Google Nest or other compatible thermostat, lights, cameras or speakers, you can manage them from the Google Home app. It’s also worth mentioning that the software is available for both iOS and Android devices.

Through Google Home, you can control many different areas of your home, adjusting the functions of individual devices – and all from one place. Using the centralized voice control system, the user is able to turn on and off home electronics/appliances accessories, lighting, thermostat, alarms or lights. With one simple command, you can also check the weather or play the news.

Apple HomeKit

Having connected electronics that can interact with each other and be automated saves time and really streamlines your life. The way to do this is with Apple HomeKit, which you can connect to via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

It’s a platform that allows you to centrally control the services that go into a smart home. All you need is that they are connected to the same network. From Apple HomeKit, you can control things like the thermostat, electrical plugs, window blinds, light bulbs and monitoring.

What can be connected to HomeKit?

HomeKit can be thought of as the backbone that connects all IoT (Internet of Things) items. Lights, locks or cameras can be controlled from the app. The user will control the parameters via devices such as an iPhone, iPad or MAC. There is also an option to control the system via Siri voice commands.

Among Apple HomeKit’s greatest strengths is the automation option. With the app, you can decide when specific devices will operate and, for example, set the moment when the thermostat or alarm goes off. This allows you to take advantage of the functioning of the Smart Home in an unconventional way, for example, by setting the lights to turn on/off to mimic the presence of household members for times when no one will actually be in the building.

Amazon Alexa

This is another software that works in a similar way to Google Home and HomeKit. The service’s operation is cloud-based and available on more than 100 million devices from both Amazon itself and other manufacturers.

Amazon Alexa is designed to make voice control intuitive and simple. The software offers access to a collection of tools, APIs, as well as reference solutions and documentation, making it easy to control with the app. It is also worth mentioning that Amazon Alexa is not only suitable for use in the home, but also in the enterprise. With it, you can facilitate daily work and automate many activities.
