How does central heating work?

People who decide to build their own home in the process of designing the building must decide on the form of heating. Properly heated interiors are an important element that determines the comfort and usability of the living space. The best temperature in winter is 20-23°C, with air humidity around 40-70%. What heating system can best cope with such a task?

The most commonly chosen system in detached houses, is central heating. This is a solution that allows you to ensure thermal comfort and is not difficult to use. Thanks to this, heat is generated in one place and then transported by a system of pipes to radiators, which are located in all rooms. This allows you to maintain the same temperature throughout the building

What is central heating?

Central heating is a heating system whose aim is to heat many rooms at the same time. The source of heat generation is usually a furnace located in a specially adapted utility room, which is called a boiler room

Central heating can be divided into

  • the source of heat generation, which is most often produced in a boiler and auxiliary equipment. Many people opt for a gas or electric furnace, or one heated by wood or coal. Solar-powered furnaces are an ecological solution. The combustion of a certain fuel in the boiler produces a certain amount of energy to heat the building;
  • heat distribution system – is the process of distributing heat energy to rooms. Central heating allows heat to be delivered by transferring hot water through a system of pipes or heated air through air ducts;
  • the last stage is transferring heat to radiators, anemostats or heating grilles installed in individual rooms. This helps to maintain the right temperature throughout the house

What are the types of central heating?

Central heating is an elaborate system that can vary depending on the type of installation used. There are many different options available, tailored to individual customer needs. Advances in technology, the search for a more efficient way to heat, and furnaces that don’t require much intervention make central heating the most popular heating system.

You can specify central heating that uses heating media

  • water-based,
  • air
  • electric
  • low-pressure steam.

The most common fuels are

  • solid fuel boiler, mainly coal, wood, pellet or eco-pea,
  • liquid fuel boiler – these are all kinds of oils,
  • gas boiler, i.e. using natural gas or LPG (this is the most economical solution),
  • heat pump, there are three types (air, water or ground source).

You can also choose central heating, which uses other elements to transfer heat to the room. The most common are

  • radiators,
  • floor or wall heating,
  • anemostats,
  • heating grilles.

Underfloor heating and its advantages

A great alternative to traditional radiators is choosing floor heating. By installing an appropriate system of tubes under the floor surface, we deliver heat to the whole room or to a selected part of it. There are different types of floor heating available on the market, which use water, air or electricity for heating. The most commonly used heating in kitchens, bathrooms and living rooms is the one with a system of tubes with water installed in the concrete screed. Underfloor heating means that even in winter we can walk around the apartment barefoot, because the floor is heated
