How to secure your kitchen? Which sensors should I choose?

Home sensors allow you to increase the safety of all family members and the property you own. Many people are wondering what devices are worth installing in the kitchen. Let’s check!

Temperature sensor for the kitchen

Due to the fact that smoke detectors are not applicable in the kitchen, where every day we cook food, from which steam naturally comes out – manufacturers of this type of equipment came up with the idea of creating devices that sound an alarm when the temperature in the kitchen is too high. Of course, a temperature sensor is not the only hazard detection device you should buy!

Gas and carbon monoxide sensors for the kitchen

Carbon monoxide (CO) is odourless and invisible to the naked eye – there are many fatal poisonings every yearfrom faulty gas stoves and other appliances.

Gas and carbon monoxide sensor, equipped with two sensors: electrochemical and semiconductor, is a modern device that quickly detects danger and notifies all household members. This practical gadget activates at the lower limit of explosion probability, i.e. when the gas concentration is about 15%. For the sake of your own life and health it is worth investing in a more expensive model with a tolerance for the minimum level of CO concentration.

Fire detector for the kitchen

In addition to the gas and carbon monoxide detector, it is worth buying a special fire detector, which will detect a fire of different origin (for example, when burning cellulose, during this process does not emit carbon monoxide, and when burning polyurethane escapes small amounts of CO, which is unlikely to detect a standard gas and carbon monoxide detector). According to fire department recommendations – thereshould be at least one fire detector on each floor.

Motion detector for the kitchen

Another device worth installing in the kitchen is a motion detector – thanks to this clever gadget, you won’t have to search for the light switch in the dark at night. It’s also a good way to scare off uninvited guests, who may enter the kitchen or another room in our absence. If you have pets, consider buying a model that does not react to the movement of an animal weighing less than 15 kg.

It is worth mentioning that the above detectors are powered by batteries or internal rechargeable batteries. You do not need any special powers or skills to install them. It is enough to follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer of a given device. Choose equipment from reputable manufacturers, preferably with a long warranty.

How else to ensure maximum safety in the kitchen?

In addition to various types of sensors for the kitchen, it’s worth following basic safety rules to minimize any potential fire hazard

  1. Remember never to place flammable items (cloths, oven gloves) near a gas stove or toaster.
  2. Never leave food cooking on the stove unattended.
  3. Do not use matches or a lighter to start the gas stove (spark igniters are much safer).
  4. Avoid overloading outlets.
  5. Thoroughly dry food before dipping it in hot oil. If smoke appears, immediately turn off the burner and cool the hot pan.
  6. Have a fire blanket in one of the kitchen cupboards so you can quickly nip a fire in the bud.
  7. Before going to bed, unplug any electrical equipment or appliances that are not designed to run continuously e.g. electric kettle, toaster, microwave.

We hope that with our practical advice you will invest in good quality kitchen detectors and ensure maximum safety for the whole family while in this room and beyond.
