Smart home is a term that refers to such a configuration of home equipment, in which the owner is able to automatically and fully remotely connect to and control devices and functions of the property. An important part of this system are motion sensors. Which of them is worth equipping the house with?

How does a smart home work?

It is a system of interconnected devices that are controlled by one central point. This is usually software installed on a smartphone, tablet, game console, computer or laptop.

The system can consist of such pieces of equipment as door and gate locks, TV, thermostat, home appliances, surveillance and light systems, as well as air conditioning or garden irrigation.

The user is able to turn them on/off, set precise operating parameters, for example, heating or cooling intensity, switch functions, collect information or set a precise schedule for the activation of individual components of the system. Such components include, among others, sensors. It will pay to find out which ones are worth equipping your property with.

Fire, CO and air quality sensor

Fire is one of the biggest threats to a property. It is capable of spreading quickly and causing great damage in a short period of time. It also poses a threat to life and health. Modern solutions include technologies that are capable of instantly tracking the threat, alerting householders, activating fire protection systems and notifying the fire department.

It is also worth investing in a carbon monoxide detector. CO is unfortunately rightly called the “silent killer” because it is odorless and undetectable to humans. Therefore, it will be a good idea to buy detectors that will catch excessive concentrations of the substance in the air in time, inform the household members and activate additional ventilation.

An air quality sensor can be an addition to the aforementioned pieces of equipment. Detectors are able to inform the user of the smart home system about the excessive presence of dust, soot, dust or too much humidity or too high temperature.

Motion sensor

The sensor detects motion in the area designated by the installer. This has many advantages. The property owner knows when an unwanted object appears on the property and whether doors and windows are open/closed. The sensor’s operation also saves energy – the lighting draws electricity only when needed.

Another advantage of this system is that it can be combined with cameras, detectors of temperature, light, humidity, vibration or UV radiation. This gives a lot of possibilities related to the control of home space.

Temperature and heating sensor

This is a detector that will make your property’s energy profile more efficient. The smart thermostat monitors indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity. It also knows at what point householders are in the property and what degree of heat they prefer.

The temperature and heating sensor adjusts its operation according to the behavior of the people in the house on a daily basis, and is able to assess which rooms they use most often.

As a result, it uses only the amount of energy needed to meet the occupants’ preferences. This can significantly reduce heating costs and help improve the quality of life at home.
